Abstract: Surface supramolecular layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly is a promising bottom-up approach to fabricate well-defined nanostructures on surface. Our group has devoted a lot of effort to develop surface coordination chemistry toward molecular devices. Starting from the primer layer on the surface, successive coordination of redox- or photoactive molecular units leads to functional LbL multilayer films with different sequences on the surface, which are relevant to the surface metal-organic frameworks or networks.
In this lecture, I will present (a) sequential LbL fabrication of redox-active films and their electrochemical and photoelectrochemical behaviors from the viewpoint of molecular devices such as switches and memories., and (b) alignment of the molecular axis in dinuclear Ru complexes on 1D single-wall carbon nanotubes.
