Talks given by

Prof. Yuval Gefen (Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel / Mercator professor at INT)

and

Dr. Ioan Pop (Physikalisches Institut and INT, KIT)

Talk of Prof. Gefen: "Playing with the Cat and Taming the Beast: the Quest for Quantum Computers"

Abstract: Quantum mechanics offers a host of paradigms which are different from our everyday experience. I will review a couple of these concepts: the wave character of matter and the non-local nature of quantum mechanics. These lay the foundations for quantum computers. I will provide a bird’s eye view of the efforts to achieve this goal.

Talk of Dr. Pop: "Quantum Useful"

Abstract: I will present an overview of the experimental efforts and challenges in quantum information hardware implementation, with a particular emphasis on superconducting quantum circuits.
