Abstract:

Metallic Liquids, with no long-range order in atomic packing, exhibit many excellent properties and unexpected phenomena. In this talk, I will mention results obtained mainly from synchrotron radiation techniques for composition and temperature dependent metallic liquids. When a material is heated, generally, it dilates. we discovered a general trend that the average distance between a centre atom and atoms in the first nearest-neighbor shell contracts for liquid metals above melting temperature upon heating. This phenomenon is caused by the redistribution of polyhedral clusters affected by temperature, which could be a ubiquitous feature for liquids consisting of various-sized polyhedra. Moreover, liquid-liquid transitions in some metallic liquids will be discussed too in this talk.
