A basis of experiemental scientific work is the availability of suitable laboratory equipment. INT uses the work of the Mechanical Workshop, which works as an cooperation of the Institute for Solid-State Physics and the INT. This workshop has the ability to manufacture unique pieces and small series according default and imagination of INT's scientists.
In the mechanical workshop all precision work and repairs for the experimental research-groups of the institute will be realized.
The workshop developes - jointly with scientists of the INT - precision equipment and devices.
Know How
- Prototyping
- Production testing
- Precision
- Vacuum technology
- Chipless and cutting production from almost all materials
- Assembly of manufactured components and assemblies to system parts.
Techniques
The tasks of the mechanical workshop include:
- Turning, milling and drilling
- Brazing and welding of stainless steel
- Sheet metal and plastic processing
Creation-Examples

Exemplification
Left picture: Pressure cell to study the behavior of the air-water interface of submerged plants at various pressures.
Right picture: With this Low-Temperature-Dilatometer it is possible to measure length changes of less than 1/100 Angström, a part of an atoms diameter.
Lower image: 10-speed gearbox for the sample tray of a laser deposition system. This structure allows to bring 10 samples in the optimum position to coat them.
