Introduction: Prof. Dr. Marcel Mayor

Abstract:

Molecular self-assembly at surfaces is a powerful concept for surface functionalisation and formation of ultraprecise structures. In combination with electrochemistry, strategies based on chemisorption from solution and supramolecular chemistry offer new routes to low dimensional systems and templated generation of structures. Discussing examples of electrochemical metal deposition and metal-organic coordination, both opportunities and challenges of self-assembly concepts will be illustrated.
