The development of new and improved materials for electrochemical energy storage devices is currently one of the most active fields in materials research. At BELLA (Batteries and Electrochemistry Laboratory), which is being funded in equal parts by KIT and BASF SE, both fundamental as well as application-driven projects on materials for future battery generations will be performed. The infrastructure and equipment of the laboratory offers all opportunities for synthetic work, electrochemical characterization of electrode and electrolyte materials, as also for the study of cell performance.
Prof. Dr. Jürgen Janek and Dr. Andreas Fischer act as scientific directors of the laboratory. In addition to his chair at the Justus Liebig University Giessen Prof. Janek has become group leader at INT and will bring in his extensive experience in solid state chemistry and electrochemistry. Dr. Fischer is directing the research group electrochemistry at BASF SE and will bring in his comprehensive experience in applied electrochemistry. Two lab managers (Dr. Heino Sommer/BASF), N.N./KIT) are responsible for the coordination and practical project organization at BELLA.
BELLA is part of the by BASF in August 2010 founded scientific network on electrochemistry and batteries. The laboratory is currently under installation and will start its regular operation from autumn 2011. In case of general questions please contact one of the scientific directors. In case of practical questions please contact one of the lab managers.
