Abstract:

There is currently a wave of renewed interest in quantum computing and quantum 
simulations. It is driven by the recent progress in constructing multi-qubit circuits 
(currently up to 50), which are capable of  performing simple quantum calculations 
or can simulate interacting quantum systems. Several well known companies have 
entered the race. I will review these recent advances. After a short introduction into 
the subject of quantum computing, quantum simulations and quantum annealing, I will 
describe some of the most promising  physical platforms: superconducting circuits, 
cold ions and atoms, as well as NV centres in diamonds.
