Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) Magnetometer

SQUID picture

Model: Quantum Design MPMS 5XL

Contact Person: Christian Reitz

Description:
The Quantum Design MPMS 5XL SQUID uses a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) Magnetometer to monitor very small changes in magnetic flux and so discover the magnetic properties of samples. It is extremely sensitive for all kinds of AC and DC magnetic measurements.
Data can be collected between H = 0 to ± 50 kOe and T = 1.7 K to 400 K. The maximum sensitivity of the instrument is in the range of 10-8 emu.
Samples in bulk, powder and thin film format can be measured. Also an electrical feed-through (with connection for thin film samples) allows the in situ measurements of either the magnetic response upon an electric field or vice versa.

Description:
The Quantum Design Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) is variable temperature-magnetometer. PPMS is configured with a 9 T longitudinal magnet and is equipped with the ACMS option (AC susceptibility and extraction DC magnetization measurements) which offers working temperature range of 1.9 – 350 K, AC frequency range 10 Hz – 10 kHz and AC field amplitude from 2 mOe to 15 Oe with the signal sensitivity of ~10-8 emu (AC) and ~10-5 emu (DC).
