High-pressure Torsion

High-pressure Torsion Device

A custom built computer controlled High Pressure Torsion (HPT) device with capacity of 250t is manufactured by W. Klement GmbH (Lang, Austria). Disc-shaped samples 8…15 mm in diameter and 0.2...0.8 mm in thickness can be processed in continuous and cyclic mode in temperature range 20…400°C. During the test “Torque vs. Angle of Twist” curve is recorded, and temperature is controlled with accuracy of 1°.

A custom built computer controlled testing stage designed for uniaxial tensile/compression tests of miniature specimens and equipped with a laser extensometer (Fiedlier Optoelektronik GmbH, Lützen, Germany) for precise measurement of the displacement on the sample gauge length. The accuracy of the displacement measurement is 0.7 µm, which allows the accuracy of the strain measurement as high as 0.0004 for samples shown in the insert.

High Pressure Torsion Extrusion

HPTE

A custom built computer controlled High Pressure Torsion Extrusion (HPTE) machine  with capacity of 150t is manufactured by W. Klement GmbH (Lang, Austria). Rod-shaped samples 12 mm in diameter and 35 mm in length can be processed in temperature range 20…400°C. During the test “Torque vs. Angle of Twist” curve is recorded, and temperature is controlled with accuracy of 1°.
