The INT research on magnetic molecules and materials rely on instruments like the Quantum Design SQUID interferometers.  Our low temperature research efforts use mostly closed-cycle cryostats to reliably obtain base temperature down to 7 mK. The UHV scanning tunneling microscope operates the sample and tip at liquid helium temperatures of around 4K.
